LETTERS SERIES
The letters series of all original commissioned works was inaugurated in 2004 with "Letters to Ohio" in response to the election. "Ohio" was followed by "Letters to Katrina" which responded to the Katrina disaster and opened in December of 2005. In June 2006, "Letters to Baghdad" premiered in Portland and focused on the troops' experience in Iraq. "Letters to Katrina" was named by the Maine Sunday Telegram one of the "10 Best Art Events in Maine in 2005" and "Letters to Baghdad" was called "provocative and powerful" by the Portland Press Herald. "Letters to the NRA" premiered in June, 2007, and examined America's culture of violence in the wake of the VATech shooting. All four of these shows brought performers and artists from as far away as Los Angeles and from NYC, Boston, all over Maine and the DC area. All works were original and commissioned by Caitlin Shetterly and WHTC for these shows.
"Letters to Katrina" was performed at the Culture Project's Impact Festival in New York City in the fall of 2006. Pieces from all four Letters shows have gone on to be performed all over country and many have been published in collections.
